Pray for Our Team in Haiti

We are all eager to do something to help the people in Haiti and we all want to know how our loved ones there are doing in the wake of the terrible earthquake. I was able (miraculously) to get through to Dr. Kerry Reeves last night via SKYPE telephone.  He assured me that he and his family and all of our short term mission team and the kids at the House of Bread are safe and sound. Due to the difficulty of communication with Port-au-Prince, we don’t have word on Julie Wirries yet.

Montrouis (pronounced MO-WEE), where the Reeves family lives and serves, is 38.4 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake.  Their three-story orphanage and living quarters was rocked and shaken, but not damaged. Just some dishes and wall hangings were broken. At the time of our conversation Kerry and some of the team were planning to go to Port-au-Prince this morning to help with rescue efforts.  I have not been able to reach them today (Wednesday).

The short term team was scheduled to return Friday, but the devastation at the PAP airport may preclude that.  The team consists of Bob and Shelly Benfield and their children, Caleb, Daniel, Anna, and Joshua; Rick Landers and his son Ezekiel, Logan Rogers, and Joy’s mother Marilyn Reid.

I know you want to help.  So please pray for all of these, as well as Kerry, Joy, Jacy Klaire, Josie Kate, Judah, and Jaxon. Pray that our own Julie Wirries, who is serving in a school in Port-au-Prince, will be able to get in touch soon.  And you can give financially through Tri-City Baptist Church for Haiti, and every penny will go to the relief work that the Reeves are doing there.  You are part of a great work!

Thursday, January 14, 2010 Update

Julie Wirries’ son Craig has just called me about 4:30 pm this afternoon, to say that he has just received word from Christian Light of Haiti that Julie is safe and sound. That is all he knows at this time, no details.  This good news is an answer to prayer and an encouragement to continue praying for others in Haiti. The Tri-City Baptist Church team is rescheduled to return a week from Saturday, leaving on Friday, January 22.
